Discover the story in which you are the protagonist
At Afundacion, ABANCA’s Social Responsibility Institution, we’ve wanted to row alongside you from the beginning.
We helped manufacture medical products when they were urgently needed.
Through our professional training center Colegio Hogar, and thanks to the tireless efforts of our volunteers, we produced more than 88,000 face shields and masks. We delivered these vitally important materials to penitentiary facilities, health centers, local governments, nursing homes, and other facilities.
Through our program Cubertos, we delivered some 80,000 meals over the school vacation period to children at risk of poverty. These nutritionally balanced meals were prepared by Galician companies, and used fresh and locally sourced products. More than 700 families were served by this program, which we will implement again during the coming holiday season.
The introduction of advanced recording and streaming technologies at our IESIDE campuses allowed us to quickly adapt from on-site to online teaching within 24 hours of the lockdown. Afundación’s commitment to digital innovation was recognized by its receiving the classification of “Type 2 Advanced Information Technology” by the Conference of Presidents of Spanish Universities.
COVID-19 forced all institutions to close their facilities. That is when we created, in record time, our online channel #AfundaciónEnCasa (i.e., #Afundación at home), which is now our channel AfundaciónTV. We started by broadcasting content suitable for all audiences, and then introduced specialized programing in the arts, gastronomy, education, health and sports. In addition, children’s activities constitute an integral component of our offerings. Education is the bridge that connects each and every facet of AfundaciónTV’s programing.
Taking care of our land, the environment, and the waters that surround us is in our DNA. That is why our cultural and social initiatives have been, and always will be, sustainable. We provide information and raise awareness about our impact on the planet through volunteering, conferences, exhibitions, roundtables, and scientific and audiovisual research.
During the lockdown, our team at the Department of Active Aging contacted more than 9900 people on the phone. Our program “Sixty-plus – Count on Us” offers these men and women conversation and provides them information, while creating a channel of expression that helps alleviate their social isolation.
